Portrait Painting

This assignment was to paint a portrait of someone using strong natural and artificial lighting to bring out both cool colors and warm colors. My goals in this portrait was to capture the essence of the girl who I was painting while bringing out the warmth of the lighting. I feel as though it turned out pretty good since it was my first portrait painting I have ever done. Hopefully I can continue to work on proportions in future portraits that I do since that was my biggest obstacle in this painting.

Edward Hopper Painting

The feeling of this painting is definately loneliness. The girl in the painting seems to be in her house, yet she seems to be sad. I like the fact that her face remains hidden so one has to imagine he rexpression rather than having it blantantly seen. Even without her face I still get the feeling that she is alone or sad. Hopper can express her emotions through body language, color, and the scenery which I think is pretty cool. Using this painting as an inspiration, I might paint myself or a friend with the same sort of isolation, while relying on other aspects to convey this rather than showing the face.

Mask Sketch

This is my sketch of the mask that I posted earlier. It's pretty basic, but the amount of detail in the actual mask was hard to capture. However, I think it's a good start to my series and hopefully I can improve to continue my skills.

Intro to My Blog

Hi. I'm Kaitlin. I'm a student taking Visual Art 3 and am exploring how to use Blogger to showcase my art that I do in my class. Although it's required that we use Blogger to post our new pieces, I think it helps provide a platform for me to expose my art. This will definately a process since I don't know how to use technology at all, but it'll help me learn to be resourcefull. Throughout my time using this blog I'll be posting some sketches pertaining to a series as well as all the other art projects I'll do. Stay posted!

Mask #1

This is the first mask in my series and it seems to be a tribal mask. I was drawn towards it for its intricate designs and the unique eyes.
